Obituary for Wanda Ann Harvey

Wanda Ann Harvey departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in East Stroudsburg, PA. Wanda was born in Albany, NY on August 23, 1958. She was the fourth child of Brenda Mosby and Johnny Hayes. Wanda and her family relocated to Newark, NJ when she was an infant.

Wanda completed her education in parochial schools in Essex County, NJ. Upon graduating from Archbishop Walsh High School, she attended Caldwell University and later transferred to Montclair University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science. Wanda obtained an additional degree in nursing from Union County College.

During her years in college Wanda met the love of her life Mr. Gil Harvey. They dated for a short period and married in 1987. Their union lasted 32 years, until her untimely death. Wanda and Gil were blessed to have a daughter Amber Harvey.

Wanda loved the Lord and enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. She was a member of Peaceful Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Johnson, where she served on the Nurses Guild. She attended the church regularly until the family relocated to the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Regardless of her location, Wanda was always eager to share the “Good News” with anyone she encountered. She was determined to let everyone know how God had blessed her life.

Wanda was employed by the state of New Jersey for 34 years until her retirement in 2018, as the Regional Representative for the Division of Disability Services. She utilized her nursing degree as a private duty nurse.
Wanda loved to take cruises to different countries and travel to different states. She planned to move to South Carolina after her retirement. Wanda would often host many gatherings for family and friends. Wanda was known for her yearly cookouts and fellowships. She was a fun loving person who enjoyed music and having a good time. Wanda’s macaroni and cheese was always in demand at every gathering and she was proud of it. Anyone who Wanda encountered was automatically considered a friend for life. Wanda was a loyal and devoted person. She had a straight to the point attitude along with her humor that was shared with family and friends regularly.

Wanda exhibited her dedication to her husband Gil and daughter Amber at all times. Wanda had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter Kendra. She delighted in seeing her grow and develop. She loved her family and her generosity was given to anyone she encountered. Her legacy lives in the hearts and minds of those who were impacted by her love and presence. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, friend and confidant. She is irreplaceable.

Wanda was predeceased by her father Johnny Hayes.

Wanda leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband, Gil Harvey; a beautiful daughter, Amber Harvey; and a precious granddaughter, Kendra. She also leaves her mother, Ms. Brenda Mosby; seven sisters, Estelle Moore, Nila Carter “Kitty”, Nouvel L. Carter-Vasquez “Peanut” (Armand), Kim Glover (Fred), Beverly A. Mosby, Tarah Mosby “TeTe” (Justin) and Debbie Hayes; two brothers, Yahya Hayes “John” (Lynn) and Abdurrahman Hayes “Edward” (Monica); two sisters-in-law, Hollis Okoye and Lisa Ridner (Jimmy); four brothers-in-law, Benjamin Harvey Jr., Alfred Harvey, Gregory Harvey and Larry Harvey; two God-children, Victor Cruz and Andrea Mann; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and lots of friends.
