Obituary for Elsie Mae Faulkner

Elsie Mae Faulkner, known to family and friends as “Sug”, was born on March 20, 1944 in Keysville, Virginia to the late Aubrey Fowlkes and Celia M. Finch. Elsie received her formal education in the Keysville school system. Elsie married Norman Bailey Faulkner and together they had five children, Bernice Perry, Debora Green, Cynthia A. Rasool, Norma Belcher, and Charles Faulkner.

In 1966, Elsie moved from Keysville to Newark, New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, Elsie worked various jobs and subsequently retired from Shore Van Inc., after twenty years of service.

Elsie believed in God, His son and the Holy Spirit and was a member of Christian Love Baptist Church in Irvington, New Jersey. Elsie loved to spend time with her family and friends, cook, shop and listen and dance to music. She enjoyed the fine things in life.

Elsie entered into eternal rest on September 27, 2018. Elsie was preceded in death by her father Aubrey Fowlkes and mother Ceclia Finch, two brothers, Raymond and Arbery, sister Francis Brown, common law husband Samuel James Arrington, and grandson Rahman Ibn Harkeem.

Elsie leaves behind to cherish her memories her five children, sister Dorothy McIver, brother Jeremiah Fowlkes, dear friend Sylvester Starling, eleven grandchildren, Nia E. Rasool, Esq., Jasmine Z. Rasool, Esq., Amira L. Rasool, Tanagee Green, Brittany Johnson, Jamil Robinson, Ashley Faulkner, Jamal Atkins, Jihad Upchurch, Demonte Blount, and Ciera Faulkner, nine great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched the lives of many and will truly be missed by all.
