Obituary for Arthur Jackson, Sr.

Mr. Arthur Jackson, Sr. was born January 8, 1928 in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the oldest son of (12) twelve children to the late George and Mattie Jackson. Arthur went on to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:30 pm at the University Hospital in Newark, NJ.
Arthur attended Sumter, South Carolina’s Public Schools. He later moved to Pahokee, Florida and lived there for two years while working at an Industrial Field Company. In 1945, Arthur moved to New Jersey and started working for Guyon Trucking Company in Harrison, NJ. He worked for Guyon Trucking Company for 30 years where he drove trucks and delivered steel to different manufacturers. Following his years at Guyon Trucking Company, Arthur decided to open up a restaurant where he served soul food in the Newark community for five years.
In 1965, Arthur started a another new business called Jackson Demolition & Construction Company where he had a crew of workers including his late brother (George, Jr.). They were responsible for the demolition of buildings and houses. He owned the Jackson Demolition & Construction Company for over 25 years. Arthur retired in 1990 and started working for his huge family. Arthur worked very hard and no job was too big nor too small. Arthur did welding, roofing, piping, masonry, railing, fencing, carpentry, lighting, plumbing and not to mention he worked on cars and trucks too!
Arthur was a jack-of-all-trades and loved to help his family, friends, neighbors and anybody out with his great skills and expertise.
Arthur loved his wife, mother, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces so much. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family. Arthur enjoyed playing card games like (pitty-pat, spade and black jack) just to name a few. He also loved to shoot pool and listen to some down home blues. He would jump in the car and drive to Sumter, South Carolina to see his family in a heartbeat. Arthur was a loving and compassionate man. He would stop what he was doing to assist and support anybody. He cared about everybody. His work ethnics were exceptional. Whatever you asked him to do, he would do it exactly as you asked and he would always do an “Excellent Job”!
In 1969, Arthur and his late wife Ernestine joined Central Presbyterian Church where they worshiped and served for 50 years. He was a part of the Central Presbyterian Men’s Ministry where they worked on many projects together and served the church and the community. He did odd jobs around the church as well. Arthur’s health began to suffer and he was in and out of the hospital and nursing home frequently, so he wasn’t able to attend church as often as he wanted to, but he always sent his tithes and offerings to the church. Arthur lived in Irvington, NJ for over 50 years.
Arthur was preceded in death by his loving wife Ernestine of over 60 years of marriage. They had (5) five children, the late Geraldine, Arthur Jackson, Jr. (Cynthia), Hattie Foreman, Vincent Bradshaw and the late Johnny Jackson. He also leaves to cherish his sister Ruby Fuller (Sumter, S.C.) Sarah Koroma (Newark, NJ), Seigel Jackson (Audrey) of Perth Amboy. Arthur’s siblings preceded in death Ida Brown, Doretha China, Alberta James, Gardenia Getter, Eva Mae Lawson, Amy Frazier, George Jackson, Jr. and Mattie Jacob.
Arthur had (9) nine grandchildren the late Paul Foreman, Jr., the late Antoin Forman, Tawanna Jackson (Trevis), Ieisha Starks (Reggie), Gregory Foreman, Joseph Foreman, Eddie Jackson, Danny Jackson, Maia Crump (Rodney), Arnetta Hannah (Langston, Jr.) and Roxanne Davis (Rashon), (25) twenty-five great-grandchildren, (2) two great-great grandchildren due later this year, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and a special friend Leola.
