Obituary for Terence "T-Bone" Smith

Terence (T-bone) Smith’s life story began on October 21, 1964 in Newark, NJ to the late James and Carolyn Lee Smith. He was the eldest of 3 known children, including Rowland Scott Smith Sr. (Scotty) and Veronica Kevina Smith (Ronie). His brother and sister loved him unconditionally. At an early age he decided not to enter the service so that he could care for his sickly mother. He loved his family and would try to cross mountains to make it happen if he could.

T-bone attended McKinley Elementary School and in 1983 he obtained his high school diploma from Orange High School. Straight out of high school he obtained his carpentry license. In 1987 he met and fell in love with Venus Chalk and on January 27, 1994 they became husband and wife. He loved and care for their children: Tara Chalk, Robert Robinson and Tawanna Robinson. He later met Martha N. Burris while working for Newark Sanitation Department and on May 15, 2005 their son, Marques Lamar Burris, was born.

T-bone had many friends, however he became great friends with Jesse Thomas and Kenneth Toldnes and they sustained a long and lasting friendship until his last breath.

T-bone was a kind and sweet person; he would give you the shirt off his back. He was straightforward and would tell it like it is. He meant what he said and said what he meant. That man could slick talk you out of anything.

T-bone had a passion for drawing and building model cars. His favorite football team was the Oakland Raiders...yup he repped that black/silver win or lose!!! And yes he could throw down in the kitchen as well as tear some fried chicken with mac & cheese up!!!

T-bone was hit with a life changing experience in 2003 that would leave him in a paraplegic state of life. Although that happened, he did not give up, he continued to fight and live. In 2010 he graduated from Drake School of Business with a certification in Computer Programming.

T-bone is preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Lee Smith, his father James Smith, grandfather Jarrett B. Lee, grandmother Johnnie Mae Lee and his daughter Tara M. Chalk. He leaves cherished memories with his nephews Rowland S. Smith Jr., Nijee Smith and Alsincere H. Robinson and nieces Asia Smith and Veronica B. Smith, as well as his brother Rowland S. Smith Sr., sister-in-law Michelle B. Smith and sister Veronica K. Smith and brother-in-law Markque Wilson, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
