Obituary for Marlon McKellar

Marlon McKellar was born on January 10, 1967 to the late Charlie Henry Stanback and Inez McKellar in Newark, NJ. He departed this life on August 5, 2019 at the age of 52.

Marlon graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1985. He was employed as a Customer Service Representative for A&F Services for 13 years at the time of his passing.

In 1993 a friend of Marlon’s by the name of Karen Nash decided to play matchmaker and introduced Marlon to her friend, Bernadette Abney. They were married in 2000. Through this union they were blessed with a daughter, Marleena McKellar, in 2003.

Marlon was someone you could rely on. He was a loyal friend to some, a confidant to some and at times a peacemaker. To his family he was a father and husband who worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

Marlon was fair when it came to observing people. He was not one to judge anyone. Marlon understood that no one is perfect, not even him.

Marlon’s love for life was reflected in his relationship with others. When he entered a room he would greet everyone. He would say, “Greetings and Salutations” or “Good Morning” with a smile. Marlon was an avid NY Giants fan. Win or lose, “Go Giants!”

Marlon was one of a kind. He will truly be missed.

Marlon leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Bernadette McKellar; a daughter, Marleena C. McKellar; three sisters-in-law, the late Johnnie Mae Nutter, Ruth B. Jones of East Orange, NJ and Juanita B. Bernard (Winston Jr.) of Bremerton, WA; two brothers-in-law, Logan D. Abney and Daniel A. Abney of Indianapolis, IN; one uncle, Edward K. McKellar of Greensboro, NC; two aunts, Beaulah of West Haven, Conn. and Gloria Jean Smith of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marlon was an only child, but his love for family extended beyond blood. He was proud to call them family: John “Jamm” McDaniel (Theresa), Andrea McDaniel, Rodney “DJ Rod” Jenkins (Angie), Tina “Madd Scientist” and Ernest “Smiley” McKay and Deirdra “Dee Dee” Turner.
