Josephine was born May 17, 1935 in Newark, New Jersey to Joseph and Sarah Davis Onley. She was one of three children. Josephine was educated in the Newark Public School system, graduating from East Side High School.

Josephine met and married Robert D. Mangan on July 22, 1951. From this union nine children were born. April 12, 1968 Robert D.Mangan departed this life leaving Josephine to raise her children. She was employed by the Job Haynes Nursing Home for twenty five years, giving her life to serving others. On April 15, 1974 she married Lewis Gray. After his death, Josephine continued in grace.

Josephine’s faith in God led her to unite with The SD Church of Newark, later she joined the New Eden Baptist Church of Newark. In the early 2000’s Josephine was led to join the First Timothy Baptist Church of Newark, NJ. She gained many friends during her time of fellowship. She became a member of the Mothers Board. Her relationship with God and the joy she felt would often make her shout for joy.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, God saw fit to call Josephine home. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Sarah Davis Onley; husbands, Robert Mangan Sr. and Lewis Gray; sister, May Barrett; sons, Pastor David Joseph, Raymond Mangan and Ronald Mangan.
