Obituary for Jose Earl Taborn

Jose E.W. Taborn, better known as Butchie or Butch, was born into the union of the late Christina Taborn and Earl Wilson Sr. on April 26, 1965. Jose was a native of both East Orange and Newark, NJ. He attended and was educated in both East Orange and Newark public school systems, graduating from Weequahic High School.

After high school, Jose enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Dix, Fort Jackson and Fort Louis. He was honorably discharged. After that he served as a drill sergeant in the Army Reserves out of Jersey City, NJ.

Jose had various jobs throughout his years, even starting his own contracting and moving company with his longtime best friend (brother), Christopher Liggings, and brother-in-law, Albert Royal.

Anyone that knew Jose, well Butch, knew he was the crazy mean uncle. But to know him was to love him. He had a heart of gold. His love for animals was his main objective. He considered them his four-footed children. Jose was known for giving all the kids and loved ones nicknames. If he did not give you a nickname then you were not important.

Jose is preceded in death by his mother and father, stepmother Ann Wilson (Boss Lady), and one sister Joann James.

Jose leaves behind: four daughters; his stepfather, Joe Pruitt; his sister and brothers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a goddaughter; a host of nieces and nephews; and his cat, Cassandra Taborn (aka Sandy).

Jose always said: “You may judge my choice of people, but you can’t judge my character.”

He will be truly missed.
