Obituary for Ravenell Williams, Jr., III

Ravenell Wiliams, Jr., III was born on October 28, 1929 to the late Ravenell Williams, Sr. and Nettie Florence Posey. He was the first of six brothers and one sister—Jesse, James, Leon, Freddie (Billy), Freddie Jerome (Uncle Buddy) and Arra May. Ravenell’s nickname was “Tip.”

Ravenell was the President of Williams Dental Laboratory, specializing in orthodontics, consultant to many dentists and conducted seminars at college and high school career days. He was a member of the National Association of Dental Laboratories; National Federation of Independent Business; Metropolitan Business and Professional Association; Acacia Lodge #23 Prince Hall Masons; Past Commander American Legend Post #470; Life Member VFW Cranford, NJ; Life member NAACP; Cranford Rotary Club; Cranford Chamber of Commerce and Dillonities of NJ Scholarship Awards Club.

Ravenell graduated from DCT High School in Latta, South Carolina. Then he graduated from New York School of Mechanical Dentistry in 1957. He also earned a certificate in Advanced Management from Union County College, Cranford Campus. He worked at the Westfield Orthodontic Group until 1971, then organized and opened his own laboratory.

Ravenell also served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was inducted January 24, 1951 and transferred to the Army Reserves January 2, 1953. He was honorably discharged December 21, 1956.

Ravenell was known in the neighborhood, by family and among YMCA camp staff as the man who BBQ good ribs. He was married for 63 years to Emmalyne E. McCoy Williams. To this union, three sons were born, O’Donal (Artist); Ravenell (YMCA Director) and Lovey (Music Performance and Instructor).

Ravenell loved with all his heart his Daughters-in-law Sandy and Pat; Grandchildren, Monique, Valence, Nicole, Caitlyn, DJ, Cara; Great grandchildren, Amir, Maven, Sage, Soleil, Jasiah and Zaylin; Nieces and Nephews, Enevelyn, Hazel, Deborah, Jackie, Frank, Jessie, Bernadette, Marvin, Terese, Leon, Anthony, Gina, Valerie, Mitchell, Kimberly, Babette and Francois. God children Melonie, Billy and many more.
