Obituary for John L. McCarthy

John L. McCarthy was born March 3, 1945 to the late Fulton McCarthy (Father) and Lula Bell Cook-McCarthy (Mother) in Shellman, Georgia. John L. was affectionately known as “Pint”.

John went to New Hope Elementary School and Midway Elementary School in Georgia. He joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Clay County, Georgia. John came to New Jersey at the age of 15. He worked at Arts Metal for a few years. He then moved to Poughkeepsie, New York. He returned to Newark, New Jersey and worked for Essex Fencing in Orange, New Jersey for 35 years.

John later married Georgia O’Neal. They remained married until she passed away.

John leaves behind: his siblings, Cora Bouyer of Staten Island, New York, Earlene McCarthy Barnes of East Orange, NJ, George McCarthy (wife, Mae Etha) of Georgetown, GA, Cenella Fleming of Florida, Maudie Green of Alabama and Annie Byrd of Florida; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Fulton McCarthy, Nelly Granger and Charlie McCarthy.
