Obituary for Daisy Davis

Our beloved Daisy Baskerville Davis was born in Boydton, Virginia on January 31, 1927 to her late parents Robert and Lucy Baskerville. Our Lord called her to rest early in the morning of June 1, 2018 at Clara Mass Hospital in Belleville, New Jersey.

Daisy attended the Newark Public School System and worked many years in the cosmetics industry in Newark, New Jersey prior to her retirement. She attended Beauty School and became a licensed beautician. Daisy married George Cooper and from that union the produced a son, Steven Cooper.

She gave her life to the Lord many years ago and was a faithful member of Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church. Daisy loved her church and the fellowship with members and family after service. She served as a member of the Stewardess Board #1 for many years.

Daisy also really enjoyed being with her family and relished attending reunions and cookouts with her cousins, nieces and nephews. Her favorite past time was traveling to various casinos in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. She was a slot machine bandit according to her friends.

She was a proud resident and homeowner in East Orange for 47 years and cherished the numerous senior citizen activities offered by the City and Norman Towers. She was instrumental in increasing police presence in her neighborhood as a part of the safe streets initiative offered by the City of East Orange.

She cherished her conversations and dinners with her granddaughter Chelsea, who bought so much joy and laughter to her heart. Daisy was so proud of her educational and career accomplishments and she told everyone who would listen to her.

Daisy is predeceased by her four brothers James Baskerville, Sam Baskerville, Clarence “Fats” Baskerville, Alfred “Jeff” Baskerville and two sisters Jennie Baskerville and Sarah “Alma” Baskerville. Daisy leaves behind one son Steven Cooper, and a granddaughter Chelsea Ransom-Cooper and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends to cherish her memories.
