Obituary for Annette Griffin

On December 13, 1958, Annette Lucas graced the world with her presence. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late, Ivory Lucas and Herbert Bines, she was destined to exude the love and light of Jesus Christ. On April 29, 2018, the angel peacefully went home.

At thirteen, Annette moved to New Jersey where she attended Orange High School. A member of the marching band, she was musically inclined and had a niche for creativity. In her leisure she loved to crochet and dance.

Attending Essex County College, she met and married the love of her life, becoming Mrs. Lorenzo Griffin. To this union, they had two special children, Allan and Lauren.

In 1980, Annette joined St. Paul Baptist Church where she was a devout servant. Among many roles, served as a deaconess and an usher. Being the compassionate warrior that she was, she helped organize, Take Life Back Ministry to support victims of domestic violence. To know her was to know how joyful, outspoken, and resilient she remained despite her trials. Dedicated to everything that she impacted, she was employed for Atlantic Health System until 2013.

Her parents and a distinguished aunt who helped raise her, Helene Claitt, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted husband, Lorenzo Griffin; son, Allan L. Griffin (Keisha); daughter, Lauren E. Griffin; granddaughters, Alisha and Imani Griffin; sisters, Lisa Bines, Nadine Bines, and Helen (Eric) Dutton, Sharon (Thomas) Dennis; Muriel Griffin and Coreitha (Warren) Oats; brothers, Herbert Lucas, Saladinn (Nicole) McCormack, Majeed Thornton, Lawrence Griffin III, Lloyd (Pamela) Griffin; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Corethia Griffin; special nephew, Thomas Griffin; and a host of relatives and friends—including a forever companion, King Leo Griffin.

Annette’s infectious smile will truly be missed but her love is immeasurable…her spirit will dwell with us forever.
